Cultural Connector Case Study: Farrah Idris

‘CBD has given the borough a real foundation and identity, as well as a cohesiveness..’

I’ve met some amazing people and had some amazing opportunities. This borough has been socially deprived for such a long time, arts and culture are not a natural thing for people to get involved with. I think CBD has given the borough a real foundation and identity, as well as a cohesiveness.

I think it’s opened up huge opportunities for artists to access funding. It’s creating clear pathways for people. Now I’m more willing to explore local happenings, rather than think I have to go into town. I feel invested in trying to support changes in the borough.

It’s given people the opportunity to explore their creativity and demonstrated to them that creativity means different things. People are now talking about the value of arts and culture. They’ve realised they can do it as adults - it’s not just something that you do with your kids and then they grow out of it. It made a huge difference that these events were free. I hope it will encourage people to want to do lots of things for themselves.
