Come and join the volunteer team and help make this September’s workshops, festival and creative activities a brilliant and fun experience for everyone taking part!
This year we have lots of opportunities for you to volunteer and get involved with as part of ThamesFest 2017. From the participation activities in the lead up to the festival with Cardboardia, we want you to bring all of your enthusiasm and energy to ThamesFest and come and join us on the Silk River walk on Monday 18th September. Take a look below at the roles available.
Tuesday 12th September - Friday 15th September - Cardboardia workshops.
You will be helping to create the Cardboardia scene, which will become part of an interactive sculpture at ThamesFest. You will help out the Cardboardia Coordinator and get to meet and greet the artists, help to keep the space clear, tidy and safe as well be a friendly face to welcome participants.
If you are interested in getting involved with this project please contact Sophie directly for full information and a separate briefing date. email@example.com or call 020 8594 7136. Please get in touch by Friday 8th September.
Saturday 16th September - ThamesFest 2017.
Site Supervisors: You will support and oversee volunteers at our information point and the locations of each of the main performances. You will have a walkie talkie and will report directly to our festival team supporting us to make sure everyone at the festival is safe and having a great time.
Artist assistants: You'll be matched with your own artists performing that day and will be on hand to make sure everything goes smoothly for their performance. This might include rehearsing their route round the festival with them in advance, checking they have all their props and reporting any issues with their equipment to the production team. This is great experience for anyone who may want to work with artists in the future.
Event hosts: You'll be the face of the festivals answering any questions the public have, helping people find their way and talking to them about what’s on throughout the day, assisting with specific performances, and making sure any hiccups are reported to our event team so we can help. This is a role you can do as a family, so if you have young/old children or any other family members and want to volunteer together we can manage these roles so that you can all be together on the day.
Behind the scenes site care team: You’ll be delivering water across the site to our volunteers, keeping the production and artist dressing rooms running smoothly, doing a couple of litter picking shifts and generally making sure across the site is clean and tidy and running smoothly. Where you find any problems you’ll be reporting these to the Production Team. If you’re slightly less outgoing and don’t fancy being front of house with the public this might be the role for you.
Volunteers will receive free food vouchers that can be used at the festival, as well as free hot and cold drinks and snacks all day. Any travel on public transport or in your own car will be reimbursed.
We are splitting up the volunteer shifts into half days of volunteering, this means you get to help out and get to enjoy the festival for the rest of the day. You can choose your preference of either 11pm – 2:30pm or 2:30pm – 6pm.
Please book onto one of the following briefing sessions. All volunteers must attend one of the volunteer briefings. If you can’t make one of these dates but would like to get involved just get in touch and we can talk through the options with you.
Monday 16th September – Silk River Walk
We are looking for volunteers to help with the smooth running of the day. Kinetika will be bringing a group of walkers to explore the stories we have collected as part of the Barking and Dagenham Silk River project and we have a few ways you can get involved. You will need to be available on Monday 16th September between the hours of 9:30am until 5:30pm. We will provide lunch and reimburse any travel costs.
Walk stewards: You will help move the walking group along the route safely, answering any questions the walkers might have. You will share information about the programme for the day, when and where there will be breaks and comfort stops along the route.
Registration helpers: You will be helping the Kinetika team to sign in people on the morning of the walk, sharing information about the day and be the welcoming face of the Barking and Dagenham walk.
Kinetika are running a special volunteer briefing you will be able to attend on Tuesday 12th September at 6pm, where you will find out about the project, meet other partners and volunteers from other points along the walk. CBD will also run a volunteer briefing, bringing together everyone involved so you will know what to expect on the day.
Please contact Sophie with your full name and contact details as well as the type of role you would like to volunteer for Silk River. firstname.lastname@example.org or call 020 8594 7136. Please get in touch by Friday 8th September.
