Grow 2022

Artist/Creative Practitioner Call Out

Creative Barking & Dagenham (CBD) is inviting expressions of interest from artists and creative practitioners who have the experience to facilitate creative activities as part of a new programme called GROW.

GROW will creatively explore environmental themes and the regenerative cycle of the growing season– from planting seeds to harvest. Throughout August 2022 we will be presenting the first iteration of GROW. Our summer 2022 project will create outdoor social and creative spaces for adults who may be feeling isolated, lonely, anxious, or stressed. Some of the adults who attend may have caring responsibilities and be accompanied by children and/or vulnerable adults. Our GROW spaces will be co-created with a team of local producers and residents and act as outdoor social spaces. We are working in partnership with the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham Healthy Lifestyles Team to test social prescribing as a mechanism of referral to the project, but the project will not be explicitly publicised for people experiencing reduced mental wellbeing or mental health distress, and whoever comes will be welcome.

GROW will take place in the Thames View and Barking Riverside areas of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. Over time, the GROW programme will build on the human, physical and natural assets of the area including the life experience of residents and the rich biodivesity, green and blue space. The area has a culturally diverse community, and we welcome applications from artists and creative practitioners from the global majority and other protected characteristics including those with lived experience of mental ill health. We welcome applications from individual artists / creative practitioners, arts organisations and collectives.

CBD is hosted by Barking & Dagenham College. Barking & Dagenham College has a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults. All appointments are subject to DBS checks, references and the completion of mandatory safeguarding training.
